      TIMBERLAND CLUB NEWS                                                         [Updated] 06.18.2008

The New Sandy Bottom Bridge Built Aug 2006

Club News from 6/11 meeting: 12 members attended the meeting. Discussions centered around the club's future. Officers noted they need help and no one is volunteering. Membership was down considerably from the year before. A motion to join ATV Maine again this year was set forth and passed. Membership dues will remain the same this year, however, we will discuss an increase next year. The club had no one last year to set up and organize club rides and it was decided to elect a ride committee to schedule rides and events this year. A ride to the forks in August, a cookout ride in Turner in Oct and attending the Toys for Tots ride in Jay in Sept is set.  Anyone interested in helping organize rides is asked to come to the next meeting. A trail work day is scheduled for June 29th. Call Mike at 225-2500 for details.  A newsletter and a membership application will be send out to past members and we will acquire a list of registered ATV's in Turner so applications can be mailed to them as well. Forms will be sent to the Turner town office.

The trail along Conant Road to The Big Apple is closed and ATV's are prohibited from riding on the runway. Riders must ride to Murray's for gas and food using the ridge trail. We are working on an alternate route and will let you know as soon as we have opened it for riding.

Recently the Dept of Conservation purchased private property that will extend the state multi-use trail system. The south end of the system will now be extended to the airport. Plans are being made to make a loading area at the south end so you can ride north to the center bridge lot all on state land. You also can take the trail north to Murray's and on to Youly's which is on Turner ATV club trails and we have received permission from all landowners.

Click here to see pictures of the bridge and a list of volunteers who helped. Thank you!
